Tottenham Hotspur is on the verge of finalizing a deal to appoint Thomas Frank as their new head coach, following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou just over two weeks after the club’s Europa League triumph. Negotiations between Tottenham and Brentford have progressed into a third day, focusing on a compensation package estimated at £10 million to release Frank from his contract, which runs until 2027.
Frank, 51, has been at the helm of Brentford since 2018, leading the club to Premier League promotion and securing two top-ten finishes. His potential move to Tottenham would mark the club’s fifth managerial appointment in less than six years.
Ange Postecoglou’s sacking came despite ending Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought with a Europa League victory over Manchester United. However, the club’s poor domestic performance, finishing 17th in the Premier League with 22 losses, prompted the decision.
Defender Micky van de Ven described the dismissal as “strange,” noting Postecoglou’s positive impact on the team and his role in achieving European success.
Son Heung-min’s Future Amidst Transition
Club captain Son Heung-min, whose contract was extended by 12 months in January, has remained non-committal about his future at Tottenham. Amidst speculation linking him to clubs in the Saudi Pro League, Son stated that he has one year left on his contract and emphasized the need to “wait and see” what unfolds.
Brentford defender Nathan Collins expressed confidence in the club’s resilience should Frank depart, praising the manager’s leadership and acknowledging the potential impact of his exit.
As Tottenham prepares for the upcoming season, the club aims to swiftly conclude negotiations with Brentford to secure Frank’s appointment and address key player decisions to stabilize and strengthen the squad.
