A man who passed away after an attack at a house in Finglas last night has been identified locally as Anthony ‘Josh’ Fowler, a native of Finglas in his early sixties. The Gardaí have initiated a murder investigation.
Just before 12:30 am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of an assault outside a residence on Dunsink Green, Finglas. Mr. Fowler was treated at the scene but was later pronounced dead at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown.
At this point, Gardaí are not considering Ireland’s latest murder to be gang-related, despite Mr. Fowler’s connections to several major organised crime figures in the Finglas area, some of whom are deceased.
No arrests have been made so far, but suspects have been identified, and they are believed to be from the local area. It is understood that the victim suffered fatal stab wounds during an altercation inside a house.
The scene has been preserved pending the arrival of the Garda Technical Bureau. According to a Garda statement, the Coroner has been notified, and both the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested to assist in the investigation. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation, and an incident room has been established at Finglas Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) will be assigned to support Mr. Fowler’s family.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, especially those with video footage or motorists with dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident.
This morning, there was a significant Garda presence at the scene, with part of Dunsink Green cordoned off with Garda tape. The corner house where the assault took place was being examined by members of the Garda Technical Bureau, who were collecting evidence for further forensic analysis. A section of the front garden covered in plastic sheeting was also being examined by the team.
A local woman mentioned she was unaware of the incident until she saw the Garda tape in the morning. Detectives were seen arriving and leaving the scene, consulting with technical Gardaí as the investigation continued.
