Woman Critical After Galway Assault

A woman is in critical condition in the hospital while gardaí in County Galway continue to question a man regarding an alleged assault in Ballinasloe earlier this week.

The woman, in her 50s, suffered serious injuries during an incident at a house in the town on Monday evening. Emergency services were alerted shortly after 7 pm and transported her to Portiuncula University Hospital.

A man, also in his 50s, was arrested yesterday evening and is currently detained at a local garda station. He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows for up to 24 hours of questioning before he must be charged or released.

Gardaí are continuing their investigations and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
