Breaking: Man Arrested, Homes Searched in Drogheda for Kyran Durnin Case

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the disappearance of schoolboy Kyran Durnin. Gardaí are also conducting searches at two homes in Drogheda. The arrested man is currently being held at a garda station in the eastern part of the country. The purpose of the searches is to uncover any evidence that could provide information about Kyran’s whereabouts or what has happened to him.

Kyran, who would now be eight years old, was reported missing in August this year, but Gardaí suspect he may have been killed up to two years ago. Earlier this week, a woman in her 20s was arrested on suspicion of murder but was later released without charge. She had been abroad for a period but was known to Kyran and had been a person of interest in the case for some time. Gardaí had spoken to her on several previous occasions.

A missing person’s report for Kyran was filed at Drogheda Garda Station in August, stating he was last seen in the town two days prior. However, during the investigation, detectives received information leading them to believe Kyran had been missing for longer. In October, the case was reclassified as a murder investigation.

Gardaí discovered that Kyran had lived in a house in Dundalk for several years and searched this property and nearby land as part of the investigation. They confirmed that the current tenants have no connection to Kyran or his disappearance. The results of this three-day search have not been disclosed for operational reasons.

The Child and Family Agency, Tusla, had alerted Gardaí in August with significant concerns about Kyran. Although he was not in Tusla’s care, they had engaged with him and his family and subsequently conducted an internal review of their interactions with them.

Gardaí continue to appeal to the public for any information regarding Kyran’s disappearance and suspected murder. They encourage anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem, to contact the Garda Investigation Team at Drogheda Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any member of An Garda Síochána.
