A lawyer is requesting the dismissal of a rape lawsuit against US rapper Jay-Z, labeling the case as “frivolous” after the accuser addressed inconsistencies in her allegations.
The lawsuit accuses Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl at a 2000 MTV Video Music Awards after-party. The accuser previously claimed that her father picked her up after the assault, but he later told NBC News that he couldn’t confirm her version of events.
The accuser admitted to making mistakes regarding certain details but reaffirmed her overall stance on the allegations.
In response to the claims, Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and his lawyer Alex Spiro shared statements through the rapper’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, calling the lawsuit a “false complaint” aimed at gaining money and attention. Jay-Z stated that the incident never occurred and criticized the lawsuit for being filed without proper verification. He promised that “true justice” would come, emphasizing their fight for victory in the case.
Spiro expressed shock that a lawyer would pursue such serious allegations without proper vetting and pressed the court to dismiss the case. He also hinted at potential disciplinary actions against the accuser’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee.
Buzbee, who is representing the accuser, denied claims of attempting to blackmail Jay-Z. He also noted that the accuser had agreed to take a polygraph test, despite the emotional toll the case has taken on her, which led to medical issues.
Meanwhile, Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé appeared together at the premiere of Mufasa: The Lion King in Los Angeles, where their daughter Blue Ivy made her film debut.
Combs, on the other hand, is facing sex trafficking charges, which he denies, and has been denied bail multiple times as he awaits trial.
