Chelsea Boss Maresca Warns Not to Underestimate Shamrock Rovers

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has emphasized that his team must not underestimate Shamrock Rovers ahead of their UEFA Conference League match at Stamford Bridge on Thursday. The Irish side has been an unexpected contender in the competition, remaining unbeaten with three wins and two draws in their five matches so far. While Chelsea has already secured progress in the tournament, a strong result could give Shamrock Rovers a chance to secure an automatic play-off position in February.

Despite Chelsea’s dominant performances in recent matches, Maresca is cautious and plans to approach the game with the same focus as always, aiming to perform their best and secure a win. He recognizes that every team has its strengths and areas for improvement, and after reviewing Shamrock Rovers’ games, he believes they are a solid team with a strong defensive block and capable players.

Maresca has also been preparing for the match by watching Shamrock Rovers’ recent Champions League fixture against Sparta Prague, the toughest opponent they faced in Europe this season. He plans to rotate his squad, with some younger players likely to feature, as he keeps one eye on Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League match against Everton on Sunday.

Regarding Mykhailo Mudryk, Maresca expressed support for the winger, who has been absent due to a positive drug test. Mudryk, who tested positive for a banned substance, has denied intentionally taking it. Maresca reaffirmed his belief in Mudryk, stating that the club is committed to supporting the player during this challenging time. Mudryk is provisionally suspended while awaiting further developments, but Maresca remains optimistic that he will have a future at Chelsea once the situation is resolved.

The coach emphasized the importance of supporting all players, regardless of their background or age, in difficult moments like these. Maresca has maintained a close relationship with Mudryk since his arrival and reiterated his commitment to helping the player through this ordeal.
