Teenager dies in tractor crash in Co Leitrim

A tragic road accident in County Leitrim has claimed the life of a teenager after a tractor he was travelling in veered off course and crashed on Tuesday afternoon.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 3:10pm on the R204 in the Aghavilla area of Carrigallen. The victim, a male in his late teens who was a passenger in the tractor, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver, also a male teenager, was taken to Cavan General Hospital for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

 

Authorities have closed off the road to facilitate a detailed technical examination, with local diversions currently in place for motorists.

Gardaí are asking any members of the public who witnessed the crash or may have dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident — between 2:30pm and 3:30pm — to assist with their investigation.
