Authorities have issued an urgent appeal to the public following the disappearance of a potentially dangerous military device from a popular walking trail in County Wicklow. The ordnance, an 84mm Illumination round used by military forces to light up areas during night operations, was initially discovered by a member of the public while walking in the Lugnaquilla area, near the Glen of Imaal military training grounds.
The device, which appeared partially buried and had likely been in place for a significant amount of time, was reported to Gardaí. However, by the time officers arrived to secure the area, the ordnance had vanished. It is now suspected that someone may have unknowingly picked it up and removed it from the scene.
