Elton John Reveals He’s Lost His Sight

Elton John has shared that he has lost his eyesight, which is preventing him from watching his new musical.

The 77-year-old musician disclosed in an Instagram post in September that an eye infection has caused a significant impact on his vision.

At the gala opening of The Devil Wears Prada musical, for which he composed the score, John expressed his gratitude to his husband, David Furnish, calling him his “rock.”

Speaking to the audience on Sunday night, he explained, “I haven’t been able to attend many of the previews because, as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight. It’s hard for me to see, but I love hearing it, and it sounded fantastic tonight.”

In his September Instagram post, John revealed that he had been dealing with a severe eye infection during the summer, which has left him with limited vision in one eye. He noted that while he is healing, the process is slow, and it will take time before he regains full sight in the affected eye.

John expressed his appreciation for the medical professionals and his family who have supported him, saying he spent the summer recovering at home and remains positive about his recovery progress.

The 2023 Glastonbury performance was John’s final UK show as part of his extensive Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which concluded with an emotional performance in Stockholm, Sweden.

Known for classics like Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting, I’m Still Standing, and Your Song, John’s life was also portrayed by actor Taron Egerton in the 2019 film Rocketman.
