Young Irish actor Flynn Gray lands role in new Star Wars film

Young Dublin actor Flynn Gray has been confirmed as part of the cast for the upcoming Star Wars blockbuster, Star Wars: Starfighter, Walt Disney and Lucasfilm announced this week. The 14-year-old joins an impressive international line-up that includes Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, and Matt Smith, marking a major step in his rising career.

Flynn Gray’s Growing Career

Gray, who already boasts credits in the feature film Baltimore and the Irish series Borderline, has also appeared in several episodes of Netflix’s global hit Wednesday. His star is set to rise further with RTÉ’s upcoming youth series Show Kids, in which he will play the lead role. That show is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, 14 September on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player at 5:10 pm.

Lucasfilm celebrated his casting with a photo of Gray standing alongside co-star Ryan Gosling and the iconic Star Wars Landspeeder vehicle. The snapshot served as a symbolic passing of the torch, showcasing the mix of seasoned Hollywood talent and emerging young actors that will drive the film forward.

A Stellar Cast and Production Team

Star Wars: Starfighter has assembled an impressive roster of talent. Six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams (American Hustle, The Fighter, Vice) and former Doctor Who star Matt Smith are among the most notable additions. They join Mia Goth (Pearl), Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge), and Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners) in what promises to be a dynamic ensemble.

Production has officially begun in the UK under the direction of Shawn Levy, best known for Deadpool & Wolverine, Stranger Things, and Night at the Museum. Levy expressed his enthusiasm for the project, calling it a career highlight. “From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up and invited me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true,” he said. Levy added that Star Wars shaped his understanding of how powerful stories and characters can resonate for generations, describing the chance to contribute to the saga as “the thrill of a lifetime.”

A New Chapter in the Star Wars Universe

Disney has confirmed that Starfighter will be a standalone entry in the Star Wars franchise, set in a time period not previously explored on film. This fresh approach signals an expansion of the galaxy far, far away, offering fans a new storyline unconnected to the Skywalker saga.

Since George Lucas first launched Star Wars in 1977, the franchise has become one of the most successful in cinema history, grossing more than $5 billion worldwide. With Levy at the helm and a mix of established stars and new faces like Flynn Gray, Starfighter is positioned to add another landmark entry to the saga when it hits cinemas in May 2027.
