Kneecap, The Apprentice, and Saoirse Ronan Make BAFTA Longlist

The highly praised music biopic Kneecap has earned a spot on the longlist for seven categories at the 2025 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), while the Irish-produced film The Apprentice has made it to six categories.

Both Kneecap and The Apprentice are among the 10 films longlisted for Best Film, alongside titles such as Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, The Substance, and Wicked.

 

In addition to Best Film, Kneecap is also longlisted for Outstanding British Film, Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer, Film Not in English Language, Original Screenplay, Casting, and Editing.

Sebastian Stan has earned a spot on the Leading Actor longlist for his portrayal of Donald Trump in The Apprentice, produced by the Irish company Tailored Films.

Saoirse Ronan has been recognized for her performance in The Outrun, which has also been longlisted for Outstanding British Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Original Score.

 

Ronan’s wartime film Blitz has also been longlisted for seven categories, including Outstanding British Film and Original Score.

Clodagh, an Irish film directed by Portia A. Buckley and starring Bríd Ní Neachtain and Katelyn Rose Downey, has made the longlist for Best British Short Film.

Emilia Pérez, a Spanish-language musical thriller starring Selena Gomez, leads the longlist with nominations in 15 categories, while Conclave, a Vatican-based thriller, has been longlisted in 14 categories.

 

These films will now move to the next phase, where BAFTA’s voting members will narrow down the contenders in each category before the final nominations are announced on January 15, 2025.
