Breaking: Man Arrested in Creeslough Explosion Probe

A man has been arrested in connection with the investigation into the deadly explosion in Creeslough, Co Donegal, which resulted in the deaths of 10 people in October 2022. Gardaí reported that the man, who is in his 60s, was detained this morning on suspicion of offences under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

He is currently being held at a Garda station in the North Western Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The explosion occurred on October 7, 2022, at a building in Creeslough that housed both apartments and a retail complex with a petrol station. The victims of the tragedy were Robert Garwe and his daughter Shauna Flanagan-Garwe, fashion student Jessica Gallagher, Celtic fan Martin McGill, Australian James O’Flaherty, Catherine O’Donnell and her son James Monaghan, shop worker Martina Martin, 14-year-old Leona Harper, and carpenter Hugh Kelly.

A Garda spokesperson provided an update, confirming that the investigation is ongoing and being coordinated from Milford Garda Station, where an Incident Room has been established. The investigation is being led by Gardaí in the Donegal Division, with assistance from the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) and other agencies, including the Health & Safety Authority (HSA) and the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU).
