Man charged with Daniel O’Sullivan murder in Youghal

A 29-year-old man has been formally charged with the murder of Daniel O’Sullivan, who died following an incident on Monday night at a bar in Youghal, County Cork.

Reece Keogh, whose registered address is on North Main Street in Youghal, was brought before Midleton District Court where he was charged with the murder, which occurred at Tynan’s Bar on 14 April. Detective Garda John O’Donovan from Midleton Garda Station confirmed the arrest and charge during the court session, stating that Mr Keogh was taken into custody at 3.06am. Upon being cautioned, Mr Keogh responded with a plea of not guilty.

The State requested that Mr Keogh remain in custody until 23 April, with no bail application submitted due to the nature of the charge. Solicitor Joe Cuddigan, representing the accused, sought free legal aid which was granted by Judge Miriam Walsh. Mr Cuddigan also expressed concerns over his client’s mental health, emphasizing that Mr Keogh is a vulnerable individual and requesting that psychiatric services within the prison system be informed.

Judge Walsh ordered that appropriate medical and psychiatric care be provided to the accused during his time in custody. Mr Keogh is scheduled to appear again before Fermoy District Court via video link on Wednesday, 23 April.
