Man Charged Over Fatal Collision in Balbriggan

A man has been formally charged in connection with a fatal incident that occurred in Balbriggan, County Dublin. The collision, which took place on Monday night, resulted in the death of another man at the scene.

Daniel Rostas, aged 41 and residing at Hastings Green in Balbriggan, is accused of either intentionally or recklessly inflicting serious harm on Mircea Rostas. The victim was found deceased on Railway Street shortly after the reported collision took place.

The defendant was charged during the early hours of Tuesday morning at Balbriggan Garda Station. Detective Garda John Delaney confirmed in court that the accused offered no response when the charge was read to him at 1.12am.

Although the prosecution indicated that they intend to oppose bail, the court did not proceed with a bail hearing during this initial appearance. The defendant’s solicitor, Sandra Frayne, stated that her client reserves the right to seek bail at a future date.

Judge Michele Finan ordered that the accused be held in custody and instructed that he appear again via videolink before Cloverhill District Court on 3 July. During the hearing, it was also noted that Daniel Rostas will require the assistance of a Romanian interpreter.

The court postponed the case pending formal directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. Rostas’ solicitor additionally requested that appropriate medical care be provided for her client while in custody.
