Police in Northern Ireland have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a pregnant woman’s body in a residence in Donaghadee, County Down. The woman has been formally identified as 27-year-old Sarah Montgomery, a mother of two.
Emergency services were called to the scene at a ground-floor flat on Elmfield Walk at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, paramedics from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service provided treatment, but Montgomery was pronounced dead at the location due to a serious injury.
Suspect in Custody as Investigations Continue
A 28-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident. Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains in its early stages and that officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Phillips described the case as a profound tragedy and stated that the victim’s family is receiving support from specially trained officers during this difficult time. Police have emphasized the seriousness of the inquiry and are continuing to gather evidence from the scene and surrounding area.
North Area Chief Inspector Yvonne McManus acknowledged the impact the incident may have on the community, expressing concern over the shock and distress it may cause.
