Watch: Netflix Unveils First Trailer for House of Guinness

Netflix has dropped the official trailer for its upcoming drama House of Guinness, an eight-part series created and written by Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight. The show, which explores the legacy of one of Europe’s most iconic families, is set to premiere globally on 25 September.

A Dynasty Brought to Screen

According to Netflix, House of Guinness tells “an epic story inspired by one of Europe’s most famous and enduring dynasties—the Guinness family.”

The series is set in the 19th century, with its narrative beginning immediately after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness. Known for transforming the Guinness brewery into an international success, his passing sparks a power struggle that will shape the future of his four children—Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben. Alongside the family’s story, the drama also follows the lives of Dublin locals whose fates intertwine with the rising global empire of Guinness beer.

By blending family saga with social history, the series aims to capture both the grandeur and the complexity of the Guinness legacy in Ireland and abroad, particularly in Dublin and New York.

A Star-Studded Cast

The cast of House of Guinness brings together a mix of established stars and rising talent. Anthony Boyle (Masters of the Air, Manhunt) plays Arthur Guinness, with Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes, Disclaimer) as Edward Guinness, Emily Fairn (The Responder, Saturday Night) as Anne Plunket (née Guinness), and Fionn O’Shea (Normal People, Dance First) as Benjamin Guinness.

They are joined by James Norton (Happy Valley, Bob Marley: One Love) as Sean Rafferty and Dervla Kirwan (True Detective: Night Country) as Aunt Agnes Guinness. Jack Gleeson, best known for his role as Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones, takes on the role of Byron Hedges. Other notable cast members include Niamh McCormack (Everything Now), Danielle Galligan (Shadow and Bone), Ann Skelly (The Nevers), Seamus O’Hara (Blue Lights), Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones), David Wilmot (Station Eleven), Michael Colgan (The Regime), Jessica Reynolds (Kneecap), Hilda Fay (The Woman in the Wall), and Elizabeth Daulau (Andor).

Why It Matters

The Guinness brand is one of Ireland’s most recognizable exports, and its history is deeply tied to the country’s industrial, cultural, and social fabric. By exploring the private struggles and ambitions of the Guinness family, the series promises not only to dramatize a household name but also to reflect the broader political and economic currents of the time.

With Steven Knight at the helm, viewers can expect a production rich in period detail, sharp dialogue, and the same atmospheric intensity that made Peaky Blinders a global hit.

House of Guinness premieres on Netflix on 25 September, offering audiences a mix of historical drama, family intrigue, and a closer look at the dynasty behind Ireland’s most famous pint.
