Breaking: Teenager killed in Co Mayo road crash

A tragic road accident in County Mayo this morning has taken the life of a teenage boy.

The single-vehicle collision occurred on the R316 near Keel, Achill, shortly before 1 a.m. The 17-year-old, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The road has been closed to allow for a technical examination, disrupting access to areas west of Keel on Achill Island.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward and for any driver with camera footage who were in the area at this time to make the footage available to them. They are asked to contact Westport Garda Station on 098 502 30, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

This is the fifth fatality on Irish roads so far this year.
