President-elect Donald Trump announced today that his inauguration next week will be conducted indoors at the US Capitol and not in the usual outdoors due to extreme cold weather conditions.
The forecast for Washington, DC, calls for record low temperatures as an Arctic blast, with windchill factors. Trump said he is concerned for the people’s safety, and does not want anybody harmed or injured attending his inauguration due to extreme cold.
Accordingly, the Inauguration Address, along with prayers and other speeches, will be held in the Capitol Rotunda. Trump reminded that this is not a first-time change of plans, recalling that former President Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration in 1985 also took place indoors because of cold weather.
The faithful who can’t get into the Capitol ceremony to celebrate their champion will be able to watch on large screens set up at a downtown Washington sports venue; it holds 20,000.
