Two Arrested After €3 Million Heroin Haul in Dublin

In a significant operation targeting organized drug trafficking, Gardaí have seized approximately €3 million worth of heroin in Dublin’s Coolock area. The seizure, conducted by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), involved the interception and search of a vehicle, leading to the discovery of over 21 kilograms of heroin packaged in 1-kilogram blocks.

Two individuals, a 34-year-old Spanish national and a 44-year-old British citizen, were arrested in connection with the seizure. They are currently detained under anti-gang legislation, which permits questioning for up to seven days. The confiscated drugs have been submitted to Forensic Science Ireland for detailed analysis.

Potential Links to Organized Crime

Authorities are investigating potential connections between the seized heroin and “The Family,” a Dublin-based organized crime group known for its involvement in large-scale drug trafficking operations. This gang has been under scrutiny for its extensive drug distribution networks and money laundering activities. Recent law enforcement efforts have led to significant disruptions of their operations, including arrests and asset seizures.

Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis emphasized the Gardaí’s commitment to disrupting heroin trafficking, stating that targeting criminal organizations operating at a global level remains a central focus of their work. The GNDOCB continues to collaborate with international partners to dismantle drug trafficking networks and mitigate their impact on communities across Ireland.
