Voter Turnout Mixed as Electorate Heads to the Polls

Voter turnout has seen a noticeable rise across polling stations in Cavan-Monaghan.

At St Mary’s Boys National School in Belturbet, turnout was 9.5% by mid-morning in two of the three voting booths. This number increased throughout the day, reaching 25% by 2:30 pm. Polling staff noted that the turnout was higher than in recent elections.

 

In Cavan town, turnout at St Clare’s National School stood at 9.2% by 11 am, rising to 15.8% by 1:30 pm. In Shercock, 21% of eligible voters had cast their ballots by 2 pm.

At the Boys’ National School in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, turnout was 7.9% by mid-morning. This increased to 16% by 1:30 pm, and over 20% by 3 pm. Meanwhile, at St Tiarnach’s NS in Clones, turnout reached 16% by 1:30 pm, and 26.3% at St Louis in Monaghan town by 3 pm. Early in the day, turnout at St Louis was 4.7%, but it jumped to 11.2% by midday.

A total of 60,063 people are eligible to vote in Cavan, and 49,089 in Monaghan, giving a combined total of 109,152 eligible voters.
